Daily 5: A Literacy Structure That Increases Academic Accountability Through Independence and Instruction

Gail and Joan present the core literacy components reflected in the second edition of The Daily 5 which will be available February 1.  They will further enhance these practices based on continued experiences in classrooms. Daily 5 structures the literacy time to increase student independence and time on task of reading and writing while allowing for instruction to be delivered in small groups and one-on-one.

 

The workshop will help participants learn:

How to adjust the Daily 5 structure for students in grades K-12.
How to launch each of the Daily 5 tasks
How Daily 5 and CAFE compliment each other
How Daily 5 aligns to Common Core

The components of Math Daily 3
Research that supports Daily 5
Valuable tips for supporting barometer children
Compelling brain research that supports instruction

 

 

CAFE: The What and How of Literacy Instruction

Joan and Gail present their systematic and practical approach for assessing and analyzing student information, organizing the results and developing instructional plans for teaching children individually, in small groups and in a whole class setting.

 

The workshop will help participants learn:

How to assess a student while using the CAFE Menu to determine next instructional steps
How to develop strategy groups and determine their focus
How to structure small groups and one-on-one teaching sessions
How to grade each interaction in small group and one-on-one and use this information to progress monitor for student learning
The alignment of the CAFE strategies to the Common Core
Whole school applications for using The CAFE System

About the Workshops

Schedule
8:00-8:30 a.m. Registration - Coffee, tea, and muffins provided
8:30-11:30 a.m. Workshop
11:30-12:45 p.m. Lunch break on your own -- pack a lunch, or enjoy one of the hotel's restaurants or one of the dozens of cafes, delis, and restaurants nearby.
12:45-3:30 p.m. Workshop

 

Registration Information 
Fee: $295.00 per person/per day
A discounted rate of $255.00 per person is available if paid by credit card.

We understand that unexpected situations sometimes occur, so substitutions are always welcome. Please have the ticket attendee name and email address changed so the substitute will receive the three-month subscription.  Here is the link on how to change that information.

We are happy to give a full refund, less a $25 processing fee per person, for cancellations 31 or more days before the workshop. No refunds are issued within 30 days of the event.
